OVERVIEW |
The Ambient
Intelligence R&D consortium (AIR&D) was founded in november 2001 by
INRIA, Philips and Thomson Multimedia for a duration of five years. In 2006, Fraunhofer joined the consortium, which was renewed for
another five years. AIR&D is entirely devoted to the
development of consumer applications in a very hot research field, ambient
intelligence. Ambient intelligence is a
new field whose goal is to create an intelligent everyday space that could be
used with the same immediacy as the electricity integrated into the walls of
our houses is being used now. Sensors, interactive screens, input devices for
speech, handwriting and tactile information will allow direct interaction
with each house or outdoor device. The field is making up an increasing part
of the framework programmes of the European Community and is also at the root
of several initiatives with similar goals to AIR&D, especially in the AIR&D is a project-driven
collaboration in support of co-operative research in the ambient intelligence
field. The consortium is open to other partners; for detail contact the
AIR&D Steering Committee. |
